Phil Mickelson Won’t Be On the List of Competitors for 2022 Masters

Phil Mickelson, who is a three-time Masters champion, is no longer listed as one of the active players. Mickelson is also not on the list of players who will compete in next month's Masters. He has been moved to the section of the tournament website that lists past champions.

In addition to Phil Mickelson, past champion Trevor Immelman is now also out of the list of competitors and on the list of past champions. The Masters have probably removed the two players from the list at their own request, as is customary. Augusta National later confirmed that the request was made. Meanwhile, Tiger Woods, who has not played since his car crash in February 2021, is still listed as one of the tournament participants. Players usually have until tournament week to make their choice and state if they will be playing or not.

Phil Mickelson, who is now 51, won the Masters tournaments in 2004, 2006, and 2010. Recently, he was involved in controversy due to his disparaging comments about the PGA Tour. Those were in relation to his conversations with LIV Golf Investments where he spoke about joining a rival league that is fronted by Hall of Fame member Greg Norman.

PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan dodged the questions about whether or not Mickelson had actually been suspended. Still, that would not apply at the Masters because players there get invited based on qualifying criteria, including past champions. A representative for Phil Mickelson declined to comment, stating that he had not talked to the golfer since he made his controversial comments and said he was stepping away.

Jay Monahan certainly thinks that the ball is in Mickelson's court, and he made that clear during an interview. He also added that he would welcome a call from Phil. Despite that, he said that it was hard for him to talk about any possible scenarios that could play out should the two talk to discuss things.
