Mark Cuban is a huge fan of the plan and thinks any player with a strong brand should be skipping college in favor of the G-League. One of the reasons why Cuban is so sure players could flourish in the G-League is because they can do their own marketing deals.

Access To Coaching

College players only get access to their coaches and teammates for a certain number of hours each week, which might stunt their growth. In the G-League, players can train with their coaches and colleagues as much as they want, helping to make them better players.

Some high school basketball players are already stars and can have over a million followers on social media. Cuban believes these players should be looking to the G-League to strike their own sneaker deals worth millions of dollars. The Dallas Mavericks owner thinks it’s financially in young players’ interests to sign up to the G-League and get earning money as soon as possible.

Not many players have followed the path Cuban lays out and by 2022 players will be able to head straight into the NBA anyway. Cuban wants players to start earning money as early as possible, and that means joining the developmental league out of high school.
