Great ideas, once planted in your head, follow you wherever you go. That’s the case with Tom Brady and the challenge he made to LeBron James on Twitter to have an ice hockey shootout. Suddenly, that’s all that fans want to see. Who would win in this iconic duel on the ice?

It All Started With LeBron James’ Q&A on Twitter

During an impromptu Q&A session on Twitter in mid-May, LeBron James was answering fans’ questions (as one does when they’re famous or bored). In a low-key, chill, format, James shared a bunch of things about himself, ranging from his cake or pie preference and his favorite movies. It wasn’t long before Brady jumped in on the fun and asked the Lakers legend a question of his own. Though seriously, what are the chances of Tom Brady surfing Twitter just as LeBron James is having a Q&A? A lucky sequence of events indeed!

The question? If Tom and LeBron had a five-round ice hockey shootout, who would win? Ever since Brady posted his question, the internet has gone wild, hoping to see these two face off on the ice ring to find out the answer.

LeBron’s Response to the Shootout Challenge Was Solid

As expected, many NHL stars and teams joined in on the shootout challenge with their own ideas and suggestions on how to make it happen. The two-time Stanley Cup champion Tampa Bay Lightning tweeted a response that they could organize the event, “just let us know.” The Columbus Blue Jackets also offered to set it up, and the Dallas Stars also commented that the two would need more than five rounds if their goalie is in the net.

Just as it seemed like LeBron will never respond, his answer finally arrived. He tweeted that he’d probably win the shootout, “but barely.” Will this hockey face-off really happen? It just might, who knows!
