After the Toronto Maple Leafs were knocked out of the NHL Playoffs in Game 7 against the Bruins in their hometown of Boston Tuesday night, fans were quick to point fingers at an ominous figure watching the game from the stands: Justin Bieber.

Things started turning south early on in the first period when goalie Frederik Anderson gave up an easy goal. Despite Anderson’s part in setting the tone for the game, which was lost 5-1, fans jokingly blamed the Canadian crooner for the star-crossed Maple Leafs. The team hasn’t won the Stanley Cup since 1967. With Toronto’s upsetting loss, there is no Canadian team left in the playoffs.

Bieber isn’t the first fellow countryman fans of the Canadian team have blamed. Game 4 against the Bruins was apparently lost because of the “Drake Curse” after Drake was seen rooting for the Maple Leafs.
Talk of a possible curse Bieber carries when rooting for teams has clearly gotten the internet talking. We can’t know why or how this happened, but this is far from the first team Justin has rooted for that lost the games he showed up to. What is certain is the Toronto Maple Leafs will not be advancing to the next round in the NHL playoffs.

The last Canadian team to win the Stanley Cup was the MontrĂ©al Canadiens in 1993, which is quite an embarrassment for Canadian hockey fans. Seeing as the vast majority of NHL players are Canadian and hockey is the country’s favorite sport, it’s hard not to believe there is something supernatural at work here.
Regardless of who is to blame, the Bruins will advance to face the Columbus Blue Jays.
