While most of us consider baseball to be “America’s pastime”, the truth is that the sport can get pretty heated from time to time. Even though it’s meant to be one of the more calming sports out there, a recent punch-up proved that anything can happen on the pitch! Recently, the Pittsburgh Pirates were playing the Cincinnati Reds last week when tensions on the field started to rise. There were a number of fouls and ejections as well as a brawl that had almost been started by Puig earlier in the game, which set the tone for the massive team-on-team pile-up that was about to happen.
After a bad pitch, Amir Garrett seemed to discuss the idea of fighting with the opposition briefly with his manager. When he got a silent ‘okay’ from Dave Bell, without much warning he rushed over to the Pirates pit and started throwing punches left, right and center. For a few moments, Garett was totally alone against the entire team as they swarmed on him to try and break up the conflict. In a matter of moments, things had escalated much further when teammates from both sides started getting involved in the fighting as well! Pretty soon, it was like a bar fight from an old saloon in the wild west and everyone who could be involved.
As the dogpile started to break up, Yasiel Puig who had literally just ended his contract with the Reds, decided to end his career with them by getting into the brawl himself! pretty soon, members of his team had to hold him back along with their manager Dave Bell, as the two were about to start the fight all over again. All in all, a total of 7 players were ejected from the game, making it one of the most intense in-game fights ever!
