In light of everything going on in the world right now, it should come as no surprise to learn that billions of people are struggling financially. Whether they have lost their jobs or whether they have taken a pay cut, there’s no doubt about the fact that it’s a difficult time for everyone. However, it’s amazing to hear that there are people who are willingly sacrificing their perks to help others — and that’s exactly what Oregon head coaches have done.

A Changing World

The world has changed dramatically over the past few months, and the ongoing coronavirus pandemic has caused many businesses and institutions to rethink their plans. In May 2020, the University of Oregon announced that they would be canceling all Spring and Summer classes on campus and instead, directing their students to online classes so that they can stay home and stay safe. While the students will be back on campus during the Fall, this decision has had a massive financial impact on the college as a whole.

Canceling the Games

Sport is a huge money-maker for the University of Oregon, but all of their sports games and practices have since been canceled. Not only do they want to keep their students safe, but they also want to make a statement to those across the world who are still not taking the pandemic seriously. Because of this, their head coaches have agreed to take a 10% pay cut in order to help the school maintain its place within the academic world. Alongside this, they will also rid themselves of any performance incentives for the 2020-21 season — which can often rack up to become huge financial incentives. This is a big move from the head coaches and something that has since been followed up by other faculty members.
